Baldwin Community Schools students share their art, music with community at Christmas Gala Band concert and art exhibit showcases student talent
BALDWIN, Mich. — Students from Baldwin Community Schools celebrated the holidays with an art exhibit and band concert during the district’s first Christmas Gala last Thursday.
“It was wonderful to see our dedicated art and band students spread holiday cheer to our students, staff, families and community members through this fun new event,” art teacher Bakiya Jones said. “In addition to showcasing our students’ hard work and talent, we focused on community outreach by providing students with hats and gloves, as well as cookie kits containing health and wellness informational flyers generously provided by District Health Department #10.”
Attendees enjoyed Christmas arts and crafts, photo opportunities, prizes and refreshments.
For the art exhibit, Baldwin students showcased their self-portraits, punch pot ceramics and positive and negative space illustrations. Each display featured a description highlighting the student artists’ passions, five-year goals or interesting components of their project.
More than 40 band students performed in the concert from grades 6 through 12. This marks the BCS band’s first concert since the program was reinstated this year after a multi-year hiatus. High school band members recently participated in the Baldwin Christmas parade and have performed for multiple on-campus events, including pep rallies, assemblies and the homecoming football game.
“Music is such a meaningful part of holiday celebrations, and it was a joy to hear our students perform classic Christmas songs for all to enjoy,” said band teacher Anthony Aronovici. “I’m very proud of our band members for working so hard these past few months to prepare for these public performances.”
