Baldwin Community Schools continues work to provide facilities that foster student success

While voters rejected bond proposal to address aging facilities, district thanks supporters

BALDWIN, Mich. – While the Baldwin Community Schools (BCS) bond proposal was not approved on Nov. 8, district leaders remain committed to working hard to provide students with learning facilities that are safe, warm, dry and support their educational success.

“While we were disappointed by the results of this bond election, we will remain focused on providing Baldwin students the education they deserve,” said David Forrester, Superintendent of Baldwin Community Schools. “I want to thank everyone who contributed time and energy to this important proposal. We will be regrouping with our Board of Education, community members, families and employees to discuss our next steps.”

The measure failed by fewer than 200 votes, 53 percent opposed to 47 percent in favor. The bond would have allowed BCS to invest in necessary district-wide upgrades like replacing old roofs, updating aging HVAC equipment, plumbing and utilities and adding important safety and security equipment to keep students and staff safe. It also would have funded a new secondary school for grades six through twelve, replacing the existing building which is nearly 70 years old.

“Every day, our teachers, staff and administrators work hard to bolster student growth and academic achievement. I am grateful for their dedication to our district, and I am proud of our students for their academic achievement and improvements, classroom leadership and positive behavior. We continue to add both academic and enrichment opportunities for our students to participate in.” Forrester said.“ Together, I am confident we will continue to make Baldwin Community Schools a great place to learn and grow.”
