Baldwin Community Schools bond proposal on November 8 ballot would fund necessary improvements
Bond would support health and safety for students and staff
BALDWIN, Mich. — On Tuesday, Nov. 8, voters in Baldwin Community Schools District will have the opportunity to vote on the Baldwin Community Schools bond proposal which will fund security and safety enhancements and update aging buildings so students can learn in a safe and healthy environment.
The bond proposal is a fiscally responsible proposal that will allow BCS to invest in necessary district-wide upgrades like replacing old roofs, updating aging HVAC equipment, plumbing and utilities and adding important safety and security equipment to keep students and staff safe.
“Keeping students, staff and our community safe is our number one priority at Baldwin Community Schools, and the bond proposal will allow the district to make necessary school safety enhancements so all of our buildings and facilities are as safe as possible,” said Superintendent David Forrester. “It will also allow us to replace the outdated junior-senior high school building and equip classrooms with the latest technology to help ensure our district, schools and community do not fall behind.”
The bond will allow the district to construct a new secondary school for 6th – 12th grades, replacing the existing building which is nearly 60 years old and has become too costly and outdated to repair. At the existing elementary school, the bond will replace the aging roofs, upgrade plumbing, mechanical, electrical, heating and cooling systems near the end of their useful life, and replace or install new technology, lighting, furniture, flooring and fixtures.
It also will reconfigure, resurface and expand the parking lot, drop-off and pick-up areas to improve traffic flow and student safety, resurface playground areas, and update and construct new athletic facilities.
“The BCS Bond Proposal will help provide the latest technology to complement our strong career and technical education programs to prepare students for college and careers,” said School Board President Mary Martin. “The bond will allow us to provide new instructional technology and programming to create real-life, hands-on experiences so Baldwin students can be prepared for college and careers and compete for jobs, including in the skilled trades.”
