Baldwin Community Schools special education director celebrates certification, award

BALDWIN, Mich. — Sonya Lund is kicking off her 17th year serving Baldwin Community Schools on the heels of receiving her special education administrative certification along with an award recognizing significant positive impact on the education and success of children with special needs.

Lund is the high school special education teacher as well as the district’s special education
director. She recently completed her special education administration certification through
Grand Valley State University. Shortly after, Lund received the Make a Difference Award from the West Shore Educational Service District Special Education Parent Advisory Committee.

“It’s an honor to serve our wonderful students at Baldwin and help ensure they have the
support in place to achieve their academic, social and emotional learning goals,” Lund said. “As a high school special education teacher, my room is a safe place where students can come for assistance and encouragement, whether they need homework help or a quiet place to take a quiz. As an administrator, I’m proud to share my years of experience to serve and protect the interests of our elementary and junior high school students with special needs as well.”

When Lund first joined Baldwin she taught seventh and eighth grade English and social studies. She then earned her master’s degree in special education from Ferris State University and has taught special education for the last seven years.

“Our staff and students are fortunate to have Sonya. She goes above and beyond to support our students and help them grow and succeed,” said Superintendent David Forrester. “We appreciate her dedication to our community and look forward to another successful school year.”
